Free Printable Katakana Practice Sheets (PDF)
Katakana is the Japanese script for loanwords, foreign names and sound effects, so you will see it on menus, signs and in manga. This PDF starts with a full gojūon katakana chart with rōmaji, then gives you a tracing row for every one of the 46 basic characters: a model, three grey copies to trace and empty squares to write on your own.

Tips
- Trace the grey characters slowly, then write the character on your own in the empty squares.
- Say the sound out loud as you write, so the shape and the reading stick together.
- Watch the stroke direction in look-alike pairs: in シ and ン the last stroke rises from the lower left, in ツ and ソ it falls from the upper right.
- Learn one column of the chart at a time and review the earlier ones every day.
